User Guide Polling Booth Manager v1

Getting Started

Create an interactive environment with your website quickly and easily with DMXReady Poll Manager. Allow visitors to respond to any question of your choosing from a list of your answers, and then review the results! Best of all Poll Manager allows each visitor only one vote, and blocks attempts at multi-voting.

A fun app to get your visitors involved, or a useful tool to allow them to anonymously rate your website!

Setting Up DMXReady Poll Manager

Installing Poll Manager

  1. Extract into your Local Site root folder, and upload to your server through Dreamweaver MX. You must Put the entire site, not just the Poll Manager files, to ensure that the application installs correctly. When asked to update any database files, click No.
  2. Note that if you add any update files for the Poll Manager (such as any modified scripts) you must once again Put the entire site for these files to integrate correctly with the rest of the application and the website.

Inserting Poll Manger into a Website

There are two methods of inserting Poll Manager: Stand Alone Use, and Server Side Include (SSI).

Stand Alone Use
  1. Create a link directly to the inc_pollmanager..asp page i.e. You can customize the page in Dreamweaver MX to match the rest of the website, if necessary.
  1. To add inc_pollmanager.asp into a current page, add the following line at the point where you wish to insert the app: Note: the page must be saved as an ASP page to function properly.

Due to security reasons, Poll Manager does not auto backup any changes to your server. Therefore it is recommended that you save your changes often. If you fail to save your changes, not only will your edits not be “published” to your server, you will also lose any changes that you have made and you will have to start again.

Add/Edit a New Poll Question

  1. Open the admin.asp page through any standard browser:
  2. In the Add New Poll/Question text box, type the new question in as you want it to appear (i.e. make sure to add all capitalization, punctuation, etc.)
  3. When completed, click the Add button. The screen will refresh, and the new poll will be listed at the bottom of the screen.
  4. To edit the question, click on the Edit Question link. In the pop-up window, make the appropriate changes and click the Close link.

Add/Edit Answers

Once you have added a poll, you can now edit it to input the answers, change the question, and even add an image to the poll. To add the answers:

  1. Open the admin.asp page through any standard browser:
  2. Click on the Edit Answers link under the Actions column.
  3. When the pop-up window appears, input the first answer in the Add an Answer text box provided and click the Add button.
  4. Repeat this process until all your answers are entered. Although the number of answers available is unlimited, we recommend that you add 2-5 answers for most questions.
  5. You can add or delete any answer after it has been added by clicking on the appropriate link next to that answer.

Add/Edit a Poll Description

  1. Open the admin.asp page through any standard browser:
  2. Click on the Edit Question link next to the appropriate poll.
  3. A pop-up window will appear. In the Question Description textbox, enter the description and click on the Save button, and then the Close link.
  4. Note: the default description is "Enter Description", and will appear with your poll.

Add/Edit an Image

  1. Open the admin.asp page through any standard browser:
  2. Click on the Edit Question link next to the appropriate poll.
  3. A pop-up window will appear. Click on the Add Image button.
  4. Another pop-up window will appear. Enter the location of the image file (JPEG or GIF) on your hard drive, or click the Browse button.
  5. Once you have entered the location, click the Upload Image button.
  6. The pop-up window will disappear, and you will return to the Edit Question window. A thumbnail of the image will now appear. Note: this may take several seconds or minutes to upload the file depnding on file size, server configuration, connection speed, etc. If you do not see the thumbnail appear, wait or try again.
  7. Click on the Save button, and then the Close link.
  8. Note: for best results, use smaller images (250x250 pixels, or 400x400). If the image file is too large, it will affect the viewability of the questions and answers.

Activate the Poll

  1. Open the admin.asp page through any standard browser:
  2. Click the Display checkbox.
  3. Click the Save button at the bottom right of the table.
  4. Note: Only one poll can be active at a time. However, visitors can go to the archived polls section to view past ones. The Archive checkbox is defaulted to on.

Delete a Poll

  1. Open the admin.asp page through any standard browser:
  2. Click the Delete checkbox.
  3. Click the Save button at the bottom right of the table.

Preview a Poll
